Rishikesh
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Rishikesh offers a unique package for both mind and body. Where on one hand it’s an iconic Hindu pilgrimage centre and the world capital of yoga, on the other Rishikesh is the River-rafting-capital of India.
Its salubrious air, magnificent milieu, the constant chime of temple bells and subtle signs of spirituality & devotion everywhere, have a very soothing effect on the mind and help rejuvenate the soul. And to compound the effect, this place offers many yoga and meditation centres which are flocked throughout the year by Indian as well as foreign tourists.
And where this serves as ‘soul curry’, body boost is provided by myriad adventurous sports, though river rafting remains the hot favourite of one and all.
This happy co-existence of religious rites & traditions and youthful adventurous sports make Rishikesh a preferred choice of one and all.
Legend of Rishikesh
Rishikesh literally means ‘Lord of the senses’. It’s believed that it gets its name after Lord Vishnu who appeared as Lord Hrishikesh to Rishi Raibhya as a reward of his ‘tapasya’ (austerities).
As the legend goes, Lord Rama did penance here after killing Ravana and Lakshman had crossed the Ganges with the help of jute rope where stands today the Lakshman jhula.
