Dow Hill

Dow Hill in Kurseong is a must visit as a lot of tourist attractions are located here like Deer Park, Forest Museum and a small amusement park.

Dow Hill also offers beautiful views of many Tea Estates. Castleton Tea Estate, known to produce the world’s most expensive tea is located close to Dow Hill.

 

Deer Park

Deer Park as the name indicates is an area where large no. of deer was found before the menace of poaching and deforestation affected their survival.

Now, under the jurisdiction of state Forest department, deer park is known as Dow Hill Park.


 


Forest Museum

Forest Museum is a treat for nature lovers as it provides insights into the .. rare flora and fauna that once existed in these forests.

 

Eagle’s Crag

Eagle’s Crag is inarguably the most popular tourist attraction in Kurseong.

Located about a kilometre from Kurseong railway station, Eagle’s Crag is a viewpoint offering magnificent views of snow-covered peaks of Kanchenjunga, Kabru and Jannu, breathtaking views of sunset and panoramic views of the Teesta river snaking its way through the valley.

There is a tourist complex at the top with a small garden, a cafeteria, a watchtower and an observatory.

The observatory, popular as ‘Netaji’s kothi’, was once the summer home of the famous Bengali freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Also, closeby is located ‘Shahid Smarak’ , a memorial built by Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, to pay tribute to the valiant men who sacrificed their lives in the agitation of 1988, demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland .

Eagle’s crag is also the starting point of many trekking trails.

 

Tea Estates

Kurseong is surrounded by a no. of tea estates and is known world over for the quality tea produced here. One can visit any of these tea estates and get an insight into how the tea leaves are processed.

Castleton, Makaibari, Ambotica, Springside are few of the most popular tea estates in Kurseong. Many tea estates like Makaibari, Selim hill also extend homestay option for the tourists providing them an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the life at a tea garden.

 

Ambotika Mandir (5 Km)

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Ambotika Mandir is one of the popular old Hindu temples in Kurseong. Situated on Ambotika Tea Estate, the temple has an orange grove closely and is well-worth a detour.

 

Giddhapahar Mandir

Located on Hill Cart road, Giddhapahar mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is venue of a huge fair every year on the holy festival of Shivratri.
