Kodaikanal
Located in Palani hills in Western Ghats at Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, Kodaikanal is a popular tourist and most sought after honeymoon destination in South India.
Popularly referred to as the ‘Princess of Hill stations’, Kodaikanal, is inarguably the most beautiful hill-station in Tamil Nadu.
Kodaikanal was established as a sanatorium in 1845 by American Madura Mission and is the only hill-station in India to have been established by Americans.
Kodaikanal is blessed with splendid scenic beauty and has dense forests with myriad species of trees and a no. of delightful waterfalls and lakes.
The city is very aptly named ‘Kodaikanal’ which in Tamil Nadu means ‘The gift of the forest’. This heavenly hill-station is also famous for plums, pears, eucalyptus oil and home-made chocolates.
Also, Kodaikanal is one of the few places where Kurinji flower, the flower which blooms once in 12 years, blooms painting the town blue. These pretty flowers were last in bloom in 2006 and are expected to bloom next in 2018.
