Kodaikanal Lake
Kodaikanal lake is the hub all tourist and commercial activities in the city of Kodaikanal.
Spread over 60 acres, this star-shaped lake is located in the heart of the town and is thronged by tourists throughout the year.
The main attraction of Kodaikanal Lake is boating. Boats can be hired from the Kodaikanal Boat and Rowing Club as well as from the Tourist Department. One can choose from the pedal and row boats and even try hand at rowing the boat.
Later, one can simply stroll around the lake and browse through several shops lining the lake or have a small bite at one of the restaurants around. Or, one can even hire a bicycle and go around cycling.

Kodaikanal Lake was created in 1863 by Henry Levinge, then collector of Madurai. Later, Levinge introduced several species of fish to the lake and brought the town’s first boat all the way from Tuticorin. The boathouse first came up in 1910 though it was only in 1932, that the lake was opened to the locals.
