Darjeeling Toy Train
A visit to Darjeeling is incomplete without a joyride in Darjeeling Toy Train!
Officially known as Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, this age-old, narrow-gauge, snail-paced, toy train was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Area in 1999.
Chugging its way up and down the steep mountains, Darjeeling Toy Train provides an important transport link to the various parts of the Himalayan hills offering breath-taking views of the scenic landscapes all along.
During tourist season one can take a joyride to Ghoom on a steam-engine driven toy train or a Jungle safari on weekends.
Charters between any two stations are also on offer and have to be reserved in advance.
Ghoom Trip
A round trip between Darjeeling and Ghoom takes about 2 hours.
Fare: INR 460 per person
The fare also includes entry fee to Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Museum located at Ghoom station.
Jungle Safari
DHR runs Jungle safaris on weekends between Siliguri and Tindharia. A round trip between Siliguri and Tindharia takes about 5 hrs and 30 min.
Reservation
Reservations for DHR can be made at any computerised reservation centre, through IRCTC or even at DHR station at Hill Cart road, Darjeeling.
