Sajjangarh, Udaipur
Sajjangarh Palace or Monsoon Palace is a palatial mansion situated atop a hill amidst lush green forests.
Built by Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar dynasty, in 1884, as an astronomical centre, Sajjangarh Palace was later developed as a resort and a hunting lodge for the royal family and is now under the control of the State Forest Department.
The palace is not very well preserved and is absolutely non-commercialised. However, the steep and long climb to the palace is worth it for the panoramic views the palace offers!
One can buy a parking ticket and drive up the mountain to reach the base of the palace from where a memorable view of the city of Udaipur, its world-famous lakes and palaces can be witnessed.
One can also hire one of the cars run by the State Forest Department from the foothills to the top. However this would involve waiting for the batch turn and sharing car space with the fellow visitors.
